Cold start to summer, and a chance of showers Tuesday afternoon

A cold front moved through Northeast Michigan early today. Prior to when the cold front moved through, temperatures reached 72 degrees in Alpena during the morning. It felt like different seasons at opposite ends of the state. The high got up to 80 degrees in Detroit, but only 57 degrees in Houghton, Michigan. Chilly temperatures remain in our forecast overnight and through Tuesday.

Temperatures overnight will drop to the upper 30s and lower 40s with clear skies. These temperatures are atypically cold for early summer.

A weak disturbance heading eastbound through the Great Lakes region could bring a few spotty showers Tuesday afternoon. Otherwise, we should also see some some periods of sun throughout the day.

Tuesday: Cold early, possibly an afternoon shower. Early-morning temperatures will drop to about 38 degrees. Temperatures will rise to the upper 50s during late-morning. Afternoon highs will head up to only around 62 degrees. Evening temperatures will head to the 50s.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy, a cool morning. Predawn temperatures will begin near 43 degrees. Late-morning temperatures will warm to the middle 60s. Afternoon highs will get close to 75 degrees. Evening temperatures will be in the lower 70s and 60s.

Thursday: Increasing clouds and warm. Most of the day looks dry, then a chance of showers moves in at night. Predawn temperatures will be around 60 degrees. Afternoon highs will reach near 84 degrees. Evening temperatures will be mainly in the 70s.
