Cold Saturday; Lower chances of light snow through early next week

Winter weather advisories issued by the National Weather Service continue to be in effect for Alpena, Presque Isle, Montmorency, Oscoda, and Ogemaw counties through this evening. The advisories are currently set to expire at 10 p.m. for Ogemaw and Oscoda counties, 5 a.m. Saturday elsewhere. Widespread snow continues this evening, then tapering Saturday morning.

High temperatures today reached the mid-30s in Alpena, but there is plenty of colder air to the west. Throughout the upcoming week, we are going to feel a couple of colder blasts — tomorrow, then again Tuesday-Wednesday.

A few snow showers will continue into the morning hours, but clearing skies should take over tomorrow afternoon. Temperatures will start in the mid-20s, and only reach the lower 30s in the afternoon. Wind speeds about 20 mph will bring wind chill values significantly colder than the measured air temperature, which is what it will feel like onto your skin while outside.

The snow should clear before high school football semifinals get underway in Pickford. Temperatures at the start of the game will be around the upper 20s, then dropping into the lower 20s by the end of the game. It will be cold and breezy under mostly cloudy skies (although a stray flurry cannot be ruled out).

After a few snow showers in the morning, most of Saturday afternoon and evening should be dry and windy. On Sunday and Monday, there are some lower chances for a few light snow showers, but they will be mixed with hours of dry weather as well.
