Cold Friday and a bright weekend on the way

High temperatures today reached 73 degrees in Alpena, 70 degrees in Cheboygan and only 59 degrees in Houghton. That colder air over the Keweenaw Peninsula is moving toward our area. Temperatures will be even colder Friday in Northeast Michigan.

A few scattered showers developed this afternoon ahead of a cold front moving toward our area. That cold front divided today’s highs in the 70s compared to locations farther north that had highs in the 50s and 60s. As a result, colder air is moving in which will last Friday and Saturday.

Low temperatures overnight will cool to about 43 degrees with mostly cloudy skies. Friday will start with chilly temperatures in the upper 40s during the morning. Cloud cover will decrease and become mostly sunny in the afternoon with highs around 62 degrees. Winds will be coming from the northwest, about 10 mph. Evening temperatures will be in the lower 50s with mostly clear skies.

Friday and Saturday are the coldest days in the forecast. After that, temperatures will trend upward through the middle of next week. Highs on Monday will be in the 70s, then close to 80 degrees Tuesday, and heating into the upper 80s Wednesday.

Early cloud cover will give way to afternoon sunshine on Friday with highs in the lower 60s. Temperatures will drop to the lower 40s early Saturday. Highs will be in the lower to middle 60s Saturday afternoon with mostly sunny skies. Sunday, highs will reach the upper 60s with totally sunny skies.
