City and Township of Alpena to host joint meeting to vote on fire staffing

ALPENA, Mich. — Officials from the City and Township of Alpena will be hosting a joint virtual meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 28 to vote on temporary solutions to the staffing crisis in the township’s fire department.

A few temporary solutions have been introduced and one will likely be approved on Monday. The recommended solution includes a 6-month contract between the city and township which allows the city’s fire department to staff one of the township’s stations while new firefighters are hired and trained.

If no solution is approved, the township will have to leave one station unmanned and accessible to on-call employees due to a lack of full-time firefighters. Public comment is welcome and recommended for the meeting.

You can access the meeting at https://www.gotomeet.me/CityofAlpena, or by calling 646-749-3112 and using the access code 667-050-061.
