Church offers addiction support services

ALPENA, Mich. — Shoreline Wesleyan church offers a variety of services weekly but Breaking Chains on Wednesday’s has a specific focus.

Shoreline’s Pastor, Joe Collins, says many members in his congregation have struggled with brokenness in the form of addiction.  In response, the church offers a few steps toward helping those with addiction.  Pastor Collins says the first step is connecting them with Jesus Christ.

In 2018 overdoses killed more than 2,000 Michiganders and nearly 80 percent of those deaths involved opioids.

Monday was recognized as overdose awareness day and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services launched a new program with Emergency Medical Services.

The new program will allow EMS providers to give overdose survivors extra naloxone kits which is a medication that reverses opioid overdoses.
