Chance of showers tonight-early tomorrow; Warmer Wednesday

High temperatures today reached the lower to middle 80s across Northeast Michigan, and light winds out of the west helped bring warm temperatures all the way to the shoreline. Skies have remained mostly cloudy with a few occasional breaks of sunshine.

A weak disturbance bringing some showers to the Upper Peninsula and parts of Wisconsin will continue to travel toward the southeast. Our area will get a chance of showers tonight and tomorrow morning, then drier conditions are expected in the afternoon and evening. Drier air over northern Minnesota and North Dakota will move in late tomorrow and dry weather will continue Wednesday.


Looking back at the month of June, it was slightly cooler and wetter than normal. All of the daily high temperatures averaged to 72 degrees, 3 degrees cooler than normal. Low temperatures throughout the month averaged to 48 degrees, also slightly cooler than normal. Total monthly rainfall amounted to 3.25 inches, close to 0.6 inches more than normal.

Low temperatures will cool to the lower 60s tonight with a chance of showers. A few showers are possible tomorrow morning, then drier weather is expected late in the day. High temperatures will reach the upper 70s in Alpena, temperatures will be slightly cooler at the shoreline because of light winds out of the east.

A slight reprieve from the hot and muggy conditions will settle in our area tomorrow. On Wednesday, temperatures will warm to the lower 80s in the afternoon with partly cloudy skies. For the Fourth of July, a few showers and thunderstorms are possible — mainly in the afternoon and evening. Thursday will also be warm and muggy with high temperatures in the middle 80s. Afternoon temperatures will reach the middle 80s again on Friday with a chance of spotty showers.
