Chance of showers increases late Sunday; Warmer next week

High temperatures on this first day of Summer reached about 70 degrees in Alpena, and brisk winds out of the northeast kept temperatures cooler at the Lake Huron shoreline. Farther from Lake Huron, high temperatures reached 75 degrees in Mio and 76 in West Branch. Mostly clear skies will continue tonight and tomorrow morning. Summer officially started today at 11:54 a.m.

Cloud cover over Illinois and Wisconsin will move in tomorrow, but Saturday should remain entirely dry. Shower and thunderstorms currently moving through North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska will arrive in Michigan on Sunday. Unsettled, showery weather will continue on Monday as well.


Low temperatures tonight will cool to the middle and upper 40s with mostly clear skies. Mostly sunny skies are expected in the morning, then cloud cover will increase late in the day as high temperatures reach the lower 70s. Light winds out of the east will keep temperatures slightly cooler at the shoreline.

The shoreline forecast for Saturday is completely dry, but on Sunday a few showers or thunderstorms are possible late-day or in the evening. Waves on Saturday will reach less than 1 ft, waves on Sunday will run a little higher about 1-2 ft.

Saturday should end up dry and we should even see a bit of sunshine in the morning. On Sunday, the chance of showers will increase late, then the chance of showers and thunderstorms remains in the forecast for Monday.

Saturday will start with mostly sunny skies, then more cloud cover is expected in the afternoon and evening. High temperatures on Saturday will reach the lower 70s. Sunday will probably start with dry weather, then the chance of showers and thunderstorms will increase. By the middle of next week we should see a couple of dry days and more summer-like temperatures, close to 80 degrees in the afternoon.
