Cedarbrook Trout Farms: Home of the Big Brownie

Cedarbrook Trout Farms owner, Jerry Kahn, feeds rainbow trout and browns in the hatchery. (July 18, 2018)

Harrisville — Travel down to Cedarbrook Trout Farms, the home of the Michigan Brown Trout Festival’s Big Brownie. Visitors can fish for rainbow trout or brook trout in the pond, watch a fish cleaning, and walk through the hatchery where all the fish grow from eggs.

After a year and a half the fish leave the hatchery and enter the ponds and raceways, which are pathways that catch the water from the aquifer on the hill, once created by glaciers, and then enter the ponds before flowing back to the swampy ground below. It is a continuous cycle created by mother nature that doesn’t use pumps or filter water for re-use, a perfect environment for healthy fish.
