Cardinals edge Bucks to win regional crown

WHITTEMORE, Mich. — For the past two years, the Whittemore-Prescott Cardinals wrestling team has fallen short in making it into states. The Cardinals did everything they could to avoid it from happening for the third consecutive time. They did exactly that on Wednesday as they edge Leroy Pine River, 36-31 to win the Region 126 title.

“I’m very proud of my whole team,” said Whittemore-Prescott head coach Russell Wilson. “Every match was important. They did their job. They saved me bonus points. It takes a team effort to win a match like this against a very good team.”

With the victory, the Cardinals will compete in states on March 30 at the Wings Events Center in Kalamazoo.
