Bulldogs get revenge as they take down Onaway

CHEBOYGAN, Mich. — Nina Alpers recorded 15 kills as Rudyard defeats Onaway in the Class D regional finals. Last year, the Bulldogs ended their season in the regional finals losing to Onaway in five sets. It’s safe to say that the Bulldogs got revenge. As a team, the Bulldogs finished with 48 kills and 94 digs.

The Cardinals were able to win the first set 26-24 but dropped three straight sets to Rudyard by scores of 25-18, 27-25, and 25-22. Breya Domke finished with 26 kills in a match, which is a new school record for Onaway. She also recorded 21 digs on the night. Mallorie Neelis had 27 assists along with five kills, four aces and 20 digs; Jordan Larson and Cloe Ehrke each contributed with 19 digs and Jackie Sellke finished with 16 digs.

“Rudyard is a very talented team,” said Onaway head coach Steve Watson. “We got a long history with them playing in regionals and they played really well.”

The Bulldogs will be in Sue Ste. Marie on Nov. 19 as they compete in a state quarterfinal matchup against Carney-Nadeau. First serve is at 7 p.m.
