Brighter skies Wednesday; Potential for showers Friday

High temperatures today reached the middle 40s across most of Northeast Michigan. Cloudy skies and a noticeable breeze out of the northwest about 15 mph contributed to cooler temperatures.

We are still seeing thick cloud cover and patchy, light showers across Northeast Michigan. Clearing skies will build in from the west tonight and tomorrow. Moisture currently over the southwest U.S. will gradually shift towards the Great Lakes region by Friday.

With the cooler temperatures over the past week — as early-morning lows have dropped to the 20s an 30s and afternoon highs heave reached the 40s and 50s — the fall foliage is reaching peak color changes across Northeast Michigan. This week or this weekend is the time to go out and enjoy the beautiful colors on the leaves across the area.

Overnight, low temperatures will drop to 31 degrees as cloudy skies gradually begin to break apart. Partly cloudy skies are expected tomorrow afternoon with lighter winds and highs in the lower or middle 40s.

Skies will become brighter tomorrow with temperatures reaching 43 degrees in the afternoon. Clouds will increase on Thursday, and after a cool start to the morning in the upper 20s, temperatures will warm to 48 degrees in the afternoon. The highest chance of rain in the forecast arrives Friday, and afternoon highs will remain in the middle or upper 40s through the weekend.
