Bridgewater will be wearing a lot of hats

ALPENA, Mich. — Over the weekend, Saginaw Valley State University finalized their cheerleading roster for the 2020-21 season. Out of 30 members who made the team, Alpena Wildcat senior Ashley Bridgewater made the cut. She has been cheerleading for three years at Alpena High School and it’s safe to say she has fallen in love with it ever since she started.

“Cheerleading has been a big family to me,” said Bridgewater. “I get to do what I love even longer.”

In the classroom, Bridgewater will be double majoring in Psychology and Political Science with a minor in Legal Studies.

Not only she will be competing and studying at Saginaw Valley State University, but she will also be serving her country as she is officially a member of the Army National Guard. On Monday, she signed her Army National Guard contract and will start basic training on Jun. 15. From there, she’ll have to serve one weekend a month and two weeks a year.

“My Aunt was my role model growing up,” said Bridgewater. “She was a Senior Chief JAG (Judge Advocate General) in the Navy. She made me want to give back to my country and that’s why I want to be an attorney.”
