Black is heading to the USHL

ALPENA, Mich. — With pick No. 81 in Phase II of the United States Hockey League (USHL) Draft, the Omaha Lancers have selected former Alpena Wildcat goaltender Cooper Black. During the 2019-20 season, Black was playing in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) for the Maryland Black Bears, where he appeared in 19 games. He finished with a 9-6-3 record, recording a .916 save percentage.

It’s safe to say that his senior season (2018-2019) is one that he’ll never forget. He led the state in save percentage (.964), goals-against average (0.87), and shutouts (8). In just 26 games, only 19 goals went by him. Because of his outstanding efforts in goal, he was named to the Michigan High School Hockey Coaches Association Dream Team and became the first Alpena hockey player to earn MHSHCA Dream Team honors.
