Bill passed to protect Michigan’s elderly

ALPENA, Mich. — The senate recently passed a bill which will protect Michigan’s elderly.  The bill will allow the voluntary use of monitoring devices in facilities to serve as a deterrent against elder abuse.

According to Alcona County Commission on Aging Executive Director, Lenny Avery, many seniors have expressed anxiety around using technology.  Avery provided suggestions as to how the elderly population can educate themselves when using technology. He also suggests monitoring who you have in your circle and keeping others aware of who you have in your personal network.

Avery encourages becoming educated by trusted sources such as your local commission on aging.
