Beware of game console scams this holiday
ALPENA, Mich.– A local business says you may want to wait if you’re trying to find the new Playstation or X-Box as a gift.
The X–Box series X–S and Playstation 5 released to the public this fall, but short supply allowed scalpers to use programs to snatch them up. The consoles are often listed on eBay at double or triple their retail price.
Gaige Tarsney, manager at K–Otic games, said to avoid buying from scalpers. Scalpers may be charging you a higher price for a product with unknown problems.
The Better Business Bureau said buyers should also beware of consoles with low price tags. They said many scams have already taken advantage of the consoles’ scarcity. To avoid these scams, the Bureau suggests thoroughly researching the company or website you plan to buy from. They also recommend you think skeptically about prices that are “too good to be true.”
