Besser Museum had soft opening to welcome visitors

ALPENA, Mich –Staff at the Besser Museum were excited to finally welcome their first guests since closing their doors on March 13th.

Since closing their doors due to COVID–19, the Besser Museum staff has been anticipating the day they would reopen.

That seemed to be the same sentiment for many visitors as the foot traffic was steady today.

Executive Director, Christine Witulski said the hardest part of being closed was not having life in the museum.

Witulski also said in addition to missing the guests, they also missed the field trip season where approximately 2,000 students come in.

Once the announcement was made that the museum was reopening,  a grandmother and her grandson were already prepared for their visit.

Another couple who visited from Ogemaw County love coming to see the older exhibits but they also enjoy some of the additional perks when visiting.

Witulski said the planetarium will not reopen until July 6th but there will be new exhibits that will be going on through October.
