ALPENA, Mich. — The Alpena community came together Saturday evening to support a family in need.
Local company Vivero Industries organized a benefit night at the APlex for the Wheeler family, who recently lost a family member. Funds for the family came from attendees’ entrance fees, dinner payments, and raffle tickets.
Local bakeries donated deserts, and local businesses donated many of the raffle prizes.
Organizer Shannon Vivero said she only knew the Wheelers through mutual friends, but still felt like she had to do something.
“Everything you get, you need to give back. And giving back to our community is something that we really feel strongly about. And Alpena’s the type of community that comes together when a family’s in need. That’s why I’m so grateful that we come from such a giving community.”
Money raised at the dinner will help the Wheelers cover funeral expenses.
If you missed the dinner, but still want to lend a hand, you can donate to the family’s GoFundMe page.
