Below freezing early Saturday; Dry start to the weekend

High temperatures today reached 50 degrees in Alpena, 47 degrees in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. and a chilly 42 degrees in Ironwood, Mich. With light winds and an already cold air mass in place, temperatures early Saturday will go below freezing.

The National Weather Service has issued Freeze Warnings for much of Northern Michigan, in effect from midnight to 8 a.m. Saturday. Temperatures will drop to the upper 20s early Saturday.

Highs will reach the lower 50s Saturday, and near 50 degrees Sunday. After that, winds will shift out of the south which will bring warmer temperatures early next week. Highs on Monday will reach the upper 50s, then lower 60s Tuesday and near 60 degrees Wednesday.

Saturday: Very cold early, mostly cloudy, and a chance of showers moving in overnight. Predawn temperatures will drop to the upper 20s! Temperatures will rise to the lower 40s in the late-morning. Afternoon highs will get up to 52 degrees. Early-evening temperatures will be in the middle 40s.

Sunday: Showers predawn through afternoon. Early-morning temperatures will start in the upper 30s. Late-morning temperatures will be in the middle 40s. Afternoon highs will reach about 50 degrees. Early-evening temperatures will be in the middle 40s.

Monday: Mix of sun and clouds, slightly warmer. Early-morning temperatures will be in the lower 30s. Late-morning temperatures will be in the lower 40s. Temperatures will rise to highs near 57 degrees in the afternoon. Early-evening temperatures will be in the lower 50s.
