Be aware of summer tax scams

LANSING, Mich. — While many people are planning their summer vacations, some are staying back to plan the perfect scam.  The Michigan Department of Treasury urges Michiganders to beware of tax scams.

They say scammers pose as tax officials through phone calls, emails or fake letters.  They also make “urgent” and “aggressive” requests using the same method.  They will ask for cash through a wire transfer, prepaid debit card or gift card.

Deputy Treasurer Glenn White said to contact the tax department for questions about your tax debt.
