Bay Athletic Club hosts virtual Fitness-Inspired Gala

ALPENA, Mich. —The Bay Athletic Club hosted their annual Fitness-Inspired Gala this weekend, and they did it virtually.

In the celebration, the athletic club named their top inspiration story of the year from their “60 Second Inspiration” stories in 2020. .  These stories, that highlight transformations through fitness, air monthly on Monday nights on the local news on WBKB-TV.

The top inspiration story of the year was awarded to 23-year-old McKayle Carter, a young woman who lost her father to cancer and had her life turned upside down during the pandemic. Carter was a collegiate athlete when her father passed. She quit, to save any energy she could muster towards graduating.

After college things were looking up when she landed her dream job in Germany, teaching English.  But six months in she was forced to pack up with within 48 hours due to the pandemic. She moved back in with her mother and turned to Bay Athletic Club for something positive to focus on.

In a little over 12 months, Carter had lost 85 pounds and found a positive, solid foundation to keep building a life on. She won $100 and a $100 donation towards an organization of her choice.
