Atlanta Huskies North Star Title defense begins at Au Gres Sims

ATLANTA, Mich. — Last year, Coach Troy Cheedie’s Atlanta Huskies were the best team in the North Star League, and they’re looking forward to defending that title in 2021.

“My expectations are to go out and have a winning season again this year,” said Coach Cheedie. “Last year, I know it was a COVID year, but we won the North Star League Title and the guys are looking forward to going out there and defending that.”

For the players, one thing that stands out is how bad they want to get after it.

“We have had a lot of weight lifting, so we have a lot of dedication,” said Trace Juergens. “We’ve been working hard and hopefully we’ll have a good season.”

“We have way more dedication now,” said Tyler Currie. “We’re all lifting now, everybody wants to do extras and stay after practice.”

Coach Cheedie sees it too. He says players get on him about doing extra work, rather than the other way around.

“They’re motivated,” Cheedie says. “They get in the weight room all summer without being asked. They’re usually knocking on my door, ‘Coach, are you opening the weight room?’ or ‘Coach, are we doing open gym?'”

The Huskies open their season Friday night at Au Gres Sims.
