Art in the Loft hosts Young Artists Exhibit for student creators

ALPENA, MICH — One local art gallery is celebrating the creativity of young artists throughout the month of April.

Art in the Loft is displaying pieces created by children from kindergarten through 12th grade. The works include everything from sketches to painting to 3D art.

Event Coordinator Brooke Stevens says the exhibit is special because children get the full experience of feeling like a professional artist.

“Ah, it’s amazing. It kind of brings the inspiration that the children have to life, so it goes beyond their household wall and fridge up into a professional gallery and kind of gives them the highlights of them being artists themselves.”

Kindergarten student Sofia Kowalski had some of her work showcased this weekend, and proudly showed off her piece and its vivid colors, and explained her creative process.

“It was like a big castle, and like stuff that’s on a dragon’s back. I used colored pencils and I used a lot of different colors, and i used a lot of black. I like creating art because it looks pretty when you finish it and it also gives you time to do something sometimes when you’re kind of bored.”

The Young Artists Exhibit will continue through the month of April, offering discounted classes to young creators.
