ALPENA, MICH — Summer is flying by and school is starting in under two weeks. Some local students made the best of their time off with visits to The Boys and Girls Club.
Students from the club have taken turns visiting Art in the Loft every Tuesday throughout the summer. They focused heavily on cooking and making crafts focused on cultural development.
Youth Volunteer Coordinator, Catherine Knoch, says the kids have taken critical skills away from their visits.
“We have a lot of activities we do at the club but it gets them out exploring their community. They might not always be able to do it at home, and so it gives them and opportunity to explore with us.”
Student, Dominic, says arts and crafts are already a big part of his life, so coming to Art in the Loft just expands his passion to create.
“I watch a lot of crafts and I have lots and lots of Leggos at home, and so I like to be creative with cooking and Leggos.”
The Boys and Girls Club school year program will start in the coming weeks if you’d like to get your kids involved.
