Arctic air retreating; Warming trend for the next few days

High temperatures today only got up to 12 degrees in Alpena with brisk winds out of the northwest at 15-20 mph. That wind direction brought in very cold air and also generated lake effect snow off of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. Winds will be light tomorrow, then shift direction out of the southeast on Friday. That wind shift will help bring warmer temperatures to our area for the end of the week.

Low temperatures overnight will drop to about 2 degrees with mostly cloudy skies. Plenty of cloud cover will linger Thursday, and a few flurries will be possible north of M-32 early in the morning. High temperatures will reach about 25 degrees Thursday afternoon.

Daily highs will continue to get warmer through the end of the week. Temperatures will climb to the lower 30s Friday afternoon. Over the weekend, highs will reach the upper 30s on Saturday, and near 40 degrees Sunday.

A few early flurries are possible Thursday, then the afternoon and evening should end up dry. Friday will start with low temperatures near 11 degrees. Mostly cloudy skies are expected Friday with mostly cloudy skies. Over the weekend, we’ll see a mix of sun and clouds and warmer temperature will move in.
