APS drivers make donation to Boys and Girls Club

ALPENA, Mich. — Current and former school bus drivers presented the local boys and girls club with a gift on Friday.

The drivers donated about $1,700 to support the BGC’s work.

Cyndi Lahaie– a retired driver– told WBKB the money sat in a shared account for roughly 20 years. After much discussion, the group decided it was time to do something with it.

“So we decided and they kinda took a vote on what to do with it. And we decided the BGC would be a good place for it because of what they do for the kids.”

Previously, the money supported a school bus safety program in the early aughts called “Buster the Bus.”

BGC Executive Director Brad Somers told WBKB he’s thankful for not just their donation, but also their impact on kids’ daily lives.

“Kids could be teetering on whether they’re gonna have that good day or not. And a lot of times they have that good day because of the interactions with people who care about them — the bus drivers included.”
