April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is National Sexual Assault awareness month and the Michigan State Police Alpena post is here to help those in affected.

purses with a purpose is an event that was organized by the Michigan State Police to collect new or slightly used purses filled with comfort items for sexual assault victims.

the purses will be given to a local organization and the women will be able to access other resources as well.

this event was started a couple years ago downstate by a trooper and it was extremely successful they were able to collect five hundred purses just for one location.

“We’re collecting new and lightly used purses filled with comfort items like feminine hygiene products, wet wipes, journals stuff like that and then they’re going to be turned over to Hope Shores Alliance and they’re going to be given to sexual assault victims that come in for their resources….”

those willing to donate can stop by the Michigan State Police Alpena post to drop off items.
