ALPENA, Mich. — Last year, the Park Family Foundation bought an artificial turf for $50,000 for the Alpena Events Complex Center. A month after the artificial turf was purchased, athletes weren’t allowed to use it, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fast forward to now, the new turf is now available to the public. Half of the turf will be available from Monday-Thursday, while the full turf is available to use from Friday-Sunday. Facility Manager, Norm Sommerfeld says using the turf is a great opportunity for athletes to train during the offseason.
“It’s great to see,” said Sommerfeld. “The athletes can come and do softball, baseball, soccer, dodgeball, many different things. There’s a lot of stuff you can do on the turf.”
