Americans look to plan first trip since pandemic
ALPENA, Mich. — After nearly one year of travel restrictions and stay-at-home orders, new surveys from Travelocity show that 60 percent of Americans are ready to hit the road and plan their first post-pandemic vacation.
However, experts say people aren’t crossing far away, bucket list vacations just yet. Instead, they’re planning “toe-dip trips”, or shorter trips that rebuild confidence and create a sense of normalcy in the near term.
“Instead what we’re seeing is people are easing back into travel with something we’re calling toe-dip trips,” Melissa Dohmen, a travel expert with Travelocity says. “These are short trips, close to home, that help us rebuild confidence.”
The increased rollout of the COVID-19 is giving people the inspiration to start vacation planning again. However, off-the-grid destinations are becoming more and more popular.
Dohmen says before traveling, check the pandemic restrictions and policies at your destination. She says lakefront cities are a hot-spot this spring break and summer vacation season.
