Alternate plan to Line 5 shut down

ALPENA, Mich. — Governor Whitmer announced her new plan to keep Michiganders safe and secure when Line 5 shuts down.  The plan ensures Michigan has reliable and affordable energy supplies as well as more efficient and renewable options.

The current pipeline is 70–years-old and if it ruptures, millions of gallons of oil will enter the shores of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.  This would have negative effects on fresh drinking water and wildlife.

Michigan has a 5–step Propane Security Plan which includes monitoring supply and coordinating responses to potential disruptions with the energy industry.
