The Alpena Softball team traveled to Central Michigan University for the Division 1 Quarterfinal against Caledonia. The Wildcats’ last Quarterfinal appearance was in 2008, so this game was special.
In the first inning, second batter Jade Schultz ripped a hit down the third baseline, but it fell just left of the foul line. It was a defensive pitcher battle until the fifth inning when the Fighting Scots scored three runs.
The Wildcats loaded the based, but could not make it to home and Caledonia defeated Alpena 5-0. Head Coach Paul Marwede was proud of the team’s growth and determination over the season.
Alpena is only losing three Seniors, so the team will be full of experienced athletes for next season…chomping at the bit for another playoff run.
