Alpena Weather – May 23, 2018

Today’s temperature hit a high of 81 degrees, and it is only going up toward the end of the week. Our beautiful, bright weather has been courtesy of a high pressure system, sitting near Detroit this evening. To the west of the high pressure system, the flow is out of the southwest, shown by the orange arrows. That flow will continue to pump up the temperatures well into the 80s. The warm front indicated by the red line across the Upper Midwest will bring some unsettled weather into the start of the Memorial Day weekend.

Tomorrow will be another day filled with bright skies and a high of 84 degrees, though we may get a few clouds rolling in during the evening.

Friday will be partly cloudy with near-record warmth. The forecast high temperature is 86 degrees, one degree shy of the record of 87 degrees. Temperatures will cool slightly as scattered thunderstorms move in on Saturday.

By Friday night, a low chance of rain will move into our area lingering through early Saturday. Most of Saturday morning should be dry, then a round of scattered thunderstorms will spread over Northeast Michigan Saturday midday-afternoon. There will still be a low chance of showers through Sunday, though dry weather is expected on Memorial Day.
