Alpena Weather – June 8, 2018

Highs today reached the mid-70s, and those temperatures in the 70s will be sticking around through the weekend. The only exception is at the immediate shoreline, where some locations will have highs in the 60s. A summary of today’s highs is mapped below.

The bright weather we enjoyed today will last into the weekend courtesy of a high pressure system currently over northern Michigan. A low pressure system over South Dakota is dominating the weather across large areas of the Plains and Midwest, but that activity is forecast to divert to our south. Showers currently along a cold front entering the Pacific Northwest will take until Tuesday to reach the Great Lakes. In the meantime, despite mostly cloudy skies early Saturday, sunshine will break through Saturday afternoon and lasting through Monday.

If you’re heading to the beach over the weekend, an area of clouds moving over northern Michigan will clear by Saturday afternoon, and nearly calm conditions will prevail for the waters of Lake Huron. Winds and waves will pick up on Sunday with wind speeds of about 10 knots (10-15 mph) and waves reaching about 3 feet.

The upcoming weekend will feature bright weather and highs in the lower 70s. Mostly sunny skies will last into Monday. Then, a storm system currently over the Pacific Northwest will reach northern Michigan on Tuesday with scattered showers and thunderstorms. By that point, high temperatures will heat up to 77 degrees.
