Alpena Township tackling Fire Dept. hiring

ALPENA, Mich. –  Alpena Township continues to look for candidates to fill its fire department.

The board of trustees has posted openings on several paid websites. One newly hired first responder starts October 4.

Supervisor Nathan Skibbe said he and Fire Chief Hark Hansen are making their search for candidates a priority.

“The thing the chief and I did today were to go through a fairly significant stack of applications for the firefighter/MFR position, said Skibbe. “I helped him reduce that by 50–60 percent. Getting into applicants that are deemed to go to the next level.”

The board said they are working with Chief Hansen to establish a better plan and foundation for the department.
