Alpena Township has begun another round of contract talks with the City of Alpena

ALPENA, Mich. – Alpena Township’s Fire Department may soon have a few new hires.

Fire Chief Dave Robbins said he’s moving forward in the hiring process of 3 candidates.

Robbins has met virtually with the 3 people. The next step is to meet face to face with them as early as this week.

Meanwhile, the Alpena Township Board of Trustees is still in talks with the City of Alpena to help save the fire department.

Township Supervisor Nathan Skibbe said recent discussions has been positive.

“Trustee Rhynard, Trustee Lappan and myself sat down recently with City Manager Rachel Smolinski, Mayor Matt Waligora, and Chief Forbush to start the conversation of what the potentials and clarification point of a contract would look like.”

Skibbe said the next step is to work with the township’s attorney and draft a contract to present to the city.
