Alpena, Mich.-The Alpena Township Fire Department recently celebrated the holidays with their annual Christmas dinner and awards night. The life saving unit passed out two major awards including: “Firefighter of the Year,” and “Rookie of the Year.”

They say hard work truly pays off, and for two Alpena Township Firefighters and EMT’s earning top awards proves that. Working over 12 years with the department, “Firefighter of the Year” recipient, Jeremy Jones said surviving a fire as a child inspired him to become a firefighter.

Jones said he was surprised to hear his named called this year to receive such a huge accomplishment.”It’s an honor to be selected,” Jones said.

Nick named, “Mumma” at the station, Amanda Tolen proves that she can do anything the boys can do which is why she has earned her stripes of becoming, “Rookie of the Year.”

“If you have the drive, if you have the well, if you have the heart do it,” Tolen said.

Chief Robbins said he couldn’t have asked for a better crew. “When it comes time for these awards, one would think it’s easy,” Chief Robbins said.

Congrats to both of you for all of your achievements with the Alpena Township Fire Department.
