Alpena (October 2, 2018) – The Alpena Wildcats boys soccer team hosted Big North Conference’s undefeated Cadillac Vikings on Tuesday. Earlier in the season the green and white tied 1-1 in Cadillac.

The Vikings scored first. Brendan Phillips received the pass, danced inside and scored in the lower left corner putting Cadillac up 1-0. Then Hayden Watkins earned a penalty kick, but Alpena junior Wenton Harrison made a big save.

“My keeper blocked a beautiful PK,” said Kyle Barbeau. “Then it woke our team to score another one, and sadly tie the game.”

That save changed the momentum in the first half. Barbeau scored from deep outside and Aidan Day added another to put the Wildcats up 2-1 at halftime.

Alpena could not hold off Cadillac. They would add another goal in the second to tie this one up 2-2.

“Unfortunately we did not have enough gas to hold them off in the second half,” said Head Coach Tim Storch. “Credit to them for digging deep and credit to us for rallying and playing hard the last 17, 18 minutes and almost pulling it out in the end.”

The Vikings remains undefeated in the BNC. The Wildcats are (10-5-4) for the season and (1-3-4) in the BNC.
