Alpena Teen Honored for Completing ’50 Yards Challenge’

Alpena, Mich.-“50 yards.” That’s how many yards Alpena teen Wesley Elliott mowed making his way to the Raising Men Lawn Care Service “Hall of Fame.”

After finding the organization on social media, Elliott decided to take on the ’50 Yard Challenge’ two years ago mowing the lawns of veterans in the area and others.

Raising Men Lawn Care Service isn’t just for young men the community service organization also has young girls apart of the team. “Right now we have about 280 plus kids, nationwide taking on the ‘50 Yard Challenge,” Founder, Rodney Smith Jr. said.

Completing the challenge Elliott received a new lawn mower, leaf blower and other surprises. He said his new gear would allow him to continue servicing others.

“It feels good, because getting this stuff helps me out a lot,” Elliott said. Elliott hopes his good deed inspires other boys and girls to do the same.

“I just want to encourage the kids to do the ‘50 Yard Challenge’ because it is such a fun experience and you get to meet a lot of people and you change in so many ways through meeting these people. It’s a fun experience through my eyes,” he said.
