Alpena Public Schools names interim superintendent

ALPENA, Mich. — An interim superintendent has been chosen for Alpena Public Schools. As John VanWagoner prepares to move on to his next location, Susan Wooden will be working with him and taking over as interim superintendent.

Wooden has served as superintendent in a number of locations including Owosso, East Jordan Public Schools, and Beaverton Rural Schools before she retired a year ago. She also has 17 years of classroom teaching experience at the secondary and community college level.

Wooden has a long background in school district leadership as she has served as director of curriculum, instruction and assessment at Owosso. She has worked with several districts, implementing bond improvements and helping with staff development efforts.

The school board is confident Wooden will fill the position well until a new superintendent is hired. Wooden said that she, “would be honored to serve the board, students, staff, families, and community partners in an interim leadership capacity.”

The search for a new superintendent is now underway.
