Alpena mall owner welcomes suggestions for J.C. Penney replacement

ALPENA, Mich. — After filing bankruptcy many J.C. Penney stores across the country will be closing their doors.   The anchor store at the Alpena Mall sadly made this list.

After more than 30 years, the J.C. Penney at the Alpena mall is closing according to the retailers blog page.

The retail giant has confirmed the closing of approximately 154 stores across the country.

According to Alpena mall owner, Solomon Belay, the Alpena location has been in trouble for a while so closing was inevitable.

Belay says while the news came as a shock, he is optimistic about a replacement.

Belay mentioned the possibility of T.J. Maxx being the replacement but wants to hear from the community about store preferences.

He says the closure could take a few more months but as of now they do not have an exact date.

Belay welcomes suggestions as to suggested retailers and says you can visit the mall’s website under contact us for input.
