Alpena hockey hungry for more

ALPENA, Mich. — The Alpena community held a send-off for the Alpena Wildcats ice hockey team on Tuesday as they’re heading up to Marquette to compete in the state quarterfinals. Alpena (5-11-1) will square off with Calumet (16-0-1) this Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Wildcats are excited to compete, but they know they have a big test coming their way.

“I’m really excited for this,” said senior Mitchell Agius. “Our team is clicking right now. If we play good defense and keep the puck out of our zone, we have a good chance.”

“It will be a great matchup between a really skilled team and a team that plays with a lot of heart,” said senior Collin Lightfoot. “We also have some skill and I think we’re going to surprise some people.”

The winner of Wednesday’s game will head to Plymouth to play the winner of Chelsea/Riverview Gabriel Richard in the state semifinal round.
