Alpena hires Eric Mitchell as new football head coach

ALPENA, Mich. — The Alpena Wildcts have a new football head coach. Three-year Defensive Coordinator Eric Mitchell accepted the position. He has put a lot of work into building up the Alpena Athletics program, which will provide for a smoother transition into the upcoming season.

Previously, Mitchell led the charge for the boys golf team, and the past two years prior to varsity coaching he led the Junior Varsity defense. Mitchell credits a lot of his experience to his old stomping grounds at Muskegon Catholic Central where he played defensive tackle and was part of two state championship squads.

Now Alpena is his home and that is where his wife was raised, so his roots run deep. For Mitchell, he wants his team to have a family first mentality, endurance and a strong defense. Mitchell plans to work with the athletes starting on Monday, July 8, prepping the boys for the Wildcats’ two week camp at the end of the month.
