Alpena falls to TC Central in regular season finale

Aidan Goike makes a layup on a fast break to start Alpena's third quarter comeback.

Alpena, Mich — With a win against TC Central, Alpena would share a Big North Conference boys basketball title with Petoskey. The Wildcats fell to TC Central earlier this season 58-53.

Alpena started the game well, jumping to a 16-11 lead after the first quarter. They would maintain that lead while being held to five second quarter points 21-19.

The Trojans came to life in the third. TC Central outscored Alpena 18-9 in the third and jumping to a 37-30 lead. Alpena tie the game multiple times throughout the fourth, but ultimately fell 57-49.

The Wildcats finish the regular season with a 16-4 overall record, and 6-4 record within the BNC. The 6-4 record places them third overall.

This is a huge improvement for head coach John Pintar and the rest of the Alpena boys basketball program. They finished the 2017-18 season 9-11 with an 0-10 conference record.

The Wildcats play their first district game on Wednesday, January 27th. The location hasn’t been announced yet, but they will play the winner of TC Central versus Marquette.
