Alpena DDA’s Fresh Waves Mural Project nominated for state award

ALPENA, Mich. – Alpena’s Downtown Development Authority may get a state award.

The DDA’s Fresh Waves Mural Project was nominated for a Michigan Downtowns Award.

The nomination comes from the Michigan Downtown Association.

The group focuses on the growth and revitalization of state downtowns and communities.

Alpena’s Fresh Waves Mural Project has helped spruce up areas downtown with beautiful artwork.

The DDA said it’s a great opportunity for state–wide recognition.

“It would be a huge accomplishment and moment of pride if we were to win,” said DDA Executive Director Anne Gentry. “So, just to get that recognition, of Alpena is a place where things are happening, where our community is really engaged in these projects, I think would be a really cool thing to show people this isn’t just a normal small town.”

The Downtown Development Authority can also win the MDA’s People’s Choice Award.
