After the senseless tragedy in Parkland, Florida as well as the incident at Ella White Elementary here in Alpena, the Alpena County Sheriff’s office is stepping up and setting the standard for school safety.
The Alpena County Sheriffs Office has announced that starting immediately deputies will be placed at Hinks, Sanborn and Wilson Elementary.
The demand for police presence at each school is to ensure students, parents and teachers feel safe– in a place where they should always feel safe!
Law enforcement in Alpena are one of the only agencies putting the safety of students first, not all facilities nationwide are providing a police presence at schools.
Alpena County is setting the standard for school safety in Northern Michigan, while full time school resource deputy at Thunder Bay Jr. High will remain and the Alpena City Police department will continue to provide a full time officer at the high school, All Saints, Immanuel Lutheran, Lincoln, Besser, Pied Piper and Ella White.
