Alpena County Road Commission Urges Drivers to Stop Crossing Unfinished Bagley Street Bridge

The Alpena County Road Commission is urging drivers to stay off the Bagley Street Bridge until it’s complete.

There have been multiple reports of cars going through, creating a danger to themselves and construction workers. While the bridge is in it’s finishing stages, it’s still not completely safe as some of the project still needs to be completed, most importantly installing guard rails.

Managing Director of the Alpena County Road Commission Ryan Brege said workers are out there and they’re not expecting anyone to be coming through. “People may not see workers and think, ‘hey I can get across here’. They may not recognize somebody crouched down next to a barrier or something and don’t understand that in a closed construction project where we all stay alert, they’re not expecting a car to be zipping through there,” he said.

The road commission added they’re thankful for the patience of area residents and a completion date of June 10 is still the goal.
