Alpena County Library cancels public programs through the end of March

ALPENA, Mich. — The Alpena Public Library, like many other organizations locally and nationally is beginning to cancel events.

The library had a number of activities lined up for reading month, but those will not go forth, as efforts to decrease the spread of Coronavirus are on the rise.

Library director, Eric Magness-Eubank, says, “We are at our first stage of what we planned on possibly doing, and that is, we have cancelled our public programs through the end of March. We’ve cancelled three children’s story time programs, a teen movie,  a concert that was supposed to take place this Sunday.”

They’ve cancelled additional teen programs as well, and limited use of the facility by outside groups. Library personnel have also removed all toys from the play area, heightened cleaning, and is requesting that patrons let employees know if they are sick.

Eubank says the library does want to take every measure they can to keep the public safe. There is no word yet on if or when programming will resume. You can stay informed on dates, and even potential library closings by checking Alpena County Library’s website or by calling (989) 356–6188.
