Alpena County Clerk announces resignation

ALPENA, Mich. — Alpena County will say goodbye to a long–serving employee next month.

County Clerk Bonnie Friedrichs submitted her letter of resignation on Thursday. After 22 years in the position— and more than 40 years with the county— she said she’s ready to relax and cross some things off her bucket list.

Friedrichs said this resignation is also her way of passing the reins to a new generation of civil servants.

“I’m over 60, so it’s time to retire and let the younger staff take over and start implementing their ideas- a new face for the county.”

However, she doesn’t plan on leaving the county without a replacement. In her letter, Friedrichs recommended county employee Keri Bertrand for the position.

She believes Bertrand will bring a modern edge to the department.

“She’s very good with computers. And the way things are going, with scanning, digital, and electronic files… I think she’d be a good fit.”

Friedrichs’s resignation is effective March 31.

Thank you for your service, Bonnie. We hope you enjoy your retirement.
