Alpena Community College Students give back on Go MAD day

ALPENA, Mich — A handful of Alpena Community College students made the best of their time off with the school’s Go MAD day.

The acronym stands for go make a difference. Student organizations went out to do community service work, giving back to everyone from school-aged children to senior citizens. Program center manager for Northwood University, Jason Barbeau visited Alpena for Go Mad day. He says he’s happy to see students enrolled in their business program through the ACC giving community members something to look forward to.

“Just to see the looks here on the students’ eyes, the young kids, when they’re with the basketball team or the beta club and just to see them look up at the students kind of giveS them a little appreciation of who they are and what they can truly do for a community.”

Some Northwood and ACC students helped senior citizens tidy up their yards, while members of the men’s and women’s basketball teams, and the beta gamers spent time at the Boys and Girls club. ACC basketball players D’Angelo Bodiford and Isaac Hogsett say they’re not just giving back, they’re enjoying time spent with the kids as well.
