Alpena boys basketball dominates in season opener

The Wildcats walk off the court following their 70-26 win over Bay City Western.

ALPENA — The Wildcats wanted to improve their defense coming into the 2018 season. Their 3 primary goals for the year are to improve their defense, finish games, and win their conference. They certainly showed that they were capable of the first 2 after their victory over Bay City Western.

This was a no doubter from the get go. Alpena never trailed Bay City at any point of the game and clearly controlled the tempo. They had excellent ball movement throughout and were deadly from the line. In total the Wildcats were 29 of 33 on free throws and could have won the game on free throws alone.

Alpena topped Bay City Western 70-26. Up next for the Wildcats is Sault St. Marie on Friday. The game tips off at 7 in the Upper Peninsula.
