Alpena Board of Education to vote on new health policy

ALPENA, Mich.– The Alpena Board of Education will be voting on a new health policy at next Monday’s meeting.

The board’s policy committee decided Monday morning to fast–track a new face–covering policy for the district. The policy would allow the superintendent to mandate masks or face coverings for students and staff during an epidemic or pandemic. Alpena Schools superintendent David Rabbideau says this policy would be important for ensuring student health.

“With everything that’s going on with the legislation and the Supreme Court decision, we just see another way to support the health and safety of our students.”

The policy also includes guidelines for what constitutes a proper face covering, and exceptions for special circumstances.
